Okay, one aspect that you should know about this game is the "Enchant" system. Once you've started exploring the world, you'll come across these "Enchant Scrolls".

What are Enchant Scrolls?

They give status boosts / penalties to equipments.

Where to get Enchant Scrolls

They are dropped by monsters or for the most part, obtained from treasures boxes in dungeons. Another method is called "extraction", which I will explain in more details below.

Types of Enchant Scrolls

There are two types: Prefix Scrolls and Suffix Scrolls. For each equipment, you can have one of each type of enchantment.

For example, I have the prefix scroll "Sharp" and suffix scroll "Wise". I want to enchant my short sword weapon. After you've successfully enchanted the weapon, the "Short Sword" turns into "Sharp Short Sword of Wisdom". The Short Sword gains the attributes from both scrolls on top of the base stats. +2 Critical from Sharp, and +3 Int from Wise (and -10 Str if lightning bolt rank is C or higher mabinogi gold, penalty).

Properties of Enchant Scrolls

1. Enchant Scrolls in this game have a "Time Limit". The higher the rank the more time you have. At rank F it's 5hr23m, rank A has 8hr23m, rank 6 has 10hr47m, and rank 1 has 13hr47m. An "expired" scroll is not usable.

2. Enchant Scrolls come in different ranks. For rank F to A, you can enchant them directly onto the equipment. For rank 9 to 1, you'll need an existing enchantment to add the new one on to. For example, you have a rank 9 scroll that you wish to enchant your sword with, you can't just enchant it onto a new sword. You will have to prepare a sword that's already enchanted by a rank A scroll to overwrite it with. Otherwise, you'll get an error message saying "No compatible target equipment found". For scrolls with rank 5 and higher (1 being highest), you will need an enchanter with skills higher than 6 to perform the action. Otherwise you'll get a message saying "Skill level is too low to perform this action".

3. You can only overwrite scrolls of the same type. Suffixes with suffixes, prefixes with prefixes.

4. Enchant Scrolls have "life" bars. A new scroll comes at 100% health. Once you've successfully enchanted an equipment, the scroll is used up and disappears. If you have failed on the enchanting process, the scroll will "lose health", and damage the equipment that you're trying to enchant! The % health lost on the scroll and the amount of damage done to the equipment depends on the ranking of your "enchant" skill. The higher rank your enchant is, the less health a scroll loses and the less damage it does, and your rate of success will increase. Once a scroll reaches 0% health, it is no longer usable and should be NPCed (for a few golds..)
